PG admission policy of the faculty of science for the session 2008-2009

 

  1. The candidates with Honours degree (10+2+3) shall be eligible to apply for admission.
  2. The intake for various subjects will be as follows:

Physics-40, Chemistry-45, Mathematics-50, Zoology-25, Botany-25, Geography & Applied Geography-45, Computer Science-10, Anthropology-15 (Hons. graduates having Sociology / Geography / Zoology / Botany / Physics / Chemistry may be considered only after considering the Honours graduates in Anthropology) Microbiology-20 (Hons. graduates in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Life Science, Botany, Zoology, Physiology may be considered only after considering the Hons graduates in Microbiology), Biotechnology-10 (Seven students will be taken from DBT panel, for the remaining three seats NBU graduates having 55% marks in Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering & Technology, Medicine & Dentistry may be considered), MCA-30 (taken from the panel of JECA. Eligibility: 60% marks in B.A Hons. / B.Sc. Hons. / B.Com. Hons / BCA / BIT / BIS / BSS degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects at (10+2) level or at graduate level.

However, if the departmental committee decides to increase the intake beyond the above quota it has to be approved by the Faculty Council.

  1. Selection of the candidates shall be made according to the following order of

Preference.

a)      First class Honours graduates of 2008 of NBU

b)      First class Honours graduates of 2007 of NBU

c)      Second class Honours graduates of 2008 of NBU

d)      Honours graduates of 2008 of other Universities of West Bengal

e)      Honours graduates of 2008 of other Indian Universities

Ten percent of the intake in each P.G. Department may be filled up by the students of other universities who have secured first class marks in the Honours examinations of 2008. The panel of such students will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the special admission test to be conducted for these students only by the respective P.G. Departments.

28% seats (22% SC and 6% ST) shall be kept reserved for SC and ST students from the state of West Bengal and Sikkim, who will be eligible for admission as per 1 and 3 above. The following procedure will be followed.

a)      Applications in the general category will be arranged in order of merit including the students of SC/ST category, if any.

b)      Applications of SC & ST candidates will be arranged in order of merit and be selected for admission according to the quota of 22% and 6% respectively.

c)      If the ST candidates fall short of the reserved quota, the vacancies will be filled-up by the SC candidates. If the SC candidates fall short of the reserved quota the vacancies will be filled up by the candidates of general category subject to the approval of the District Authority

  1. Physically handicapped candidates of 2008 will be considered specially if they are otherwise eligible. Such candidates have to submit the Medical Certificate from the appropriate authority. An internal screening of these candidates will be made. Three percent of the intake shall be kept reserved for such candidates.
  2. Three percent of the intake shall be kept reserved for the candidates holding B.P.L. certificates. The selection of such candidates will be on the basis of merit.
  3. Three percent of the marks obtained by the University level N.S.S. awardees, five percent of the marks obtained by the State level N.S.S awardees and seven percent of the marks obtained by Indira Gandhi National awardees shall be added to their total marks as incentives to the N.S.S. volunteers.
