The Centre undertakes research work under Area Studies Programme .It conducts M.Phil in the relevant disciplines and a Certificate Course in Tibetan Language

The
Centre is involved in
(i) conducting P.G.Diploma course in Marketing Management/ Rural Development,
Education & Extension.
(ii) project of medicinal plant cultivation and research sponsored by DST,
Govt. of West Bengal
(iii) continuing education courses like (a) production & training of
manpower in Mushroom (b) tissue culture (c) soft skill & personality
development (d) office management etc.
(iv) action research projects on socio-cultural, economic ,health and gender
issues in the region.
The
Centre has been established in May' 2000 with 9th plan UGC assistance to take
up research, consultancy and extension programmes on gender issues in the

Centre has been established in July, 2000 for research, training and
consultancy activities in the North Bengal region in respect of
(i) land uses
(ii) land slides
(iii) environmental issues
(iv) socio-economic surveys
(v) analysis of soil , water , air , food products and agrochemicals
(vi) remote sensing data analysis
(vii) preparation of pilot projects in developmental schemes
( viii ) EMP and EIA analysis etc.
The Centre ( CDS ) conducts one-yr. P.G. Diploma course in Disaster Management
since Jan., 2004.
Under
the direct charge of the Registrar, the cell looks after publication and sale
of the learned research works, textbooks, seminar proceedings etc. It offers
financial assistance to teachers and scholars for publication of learned
research works out of UGC/University fund. Two journals, namely, the NBU Review
in Humanities Social Science and the NBU Review in Science Technology are
published twice a year.
