The Centre is assisted by the UGC under the “Area Studies Programme”. The Centre is primarily engaged in research and advanced studies in the relevant disciplines.

 

M.A. in Strategic and Area Studies (SAS)

 

M.A. in Strategic and Area Studies programme offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Defence / Strategic affairs and contemporary social and political issues. The objective of initiating the course is to engage in the study of peace, security, development and environment of India and her neighboring regions. At a point of time, where Globalization is a reality and networking and interactions are rapidly changing the face of our civilization, the programme is intended to prepare students in the skills and knowledge, which are fundamental components of global citizenship and are based on scientific and rational outlook. No single discipline can claim to equip students in the depth and breadth of multi-disciplinary problematiques of today’s social science. A reflexive understanding of global history and Contemporary process of social change requires familiarity with creative social science methodologies. In order to facilitate teaching / research, the course will acquaint students with knowledge of History, Politics, Global Economy, Anthropology and Geopolitics along with Science, Technology, culture and religion.

 

The course is comprised of Compulsory courses and Special courses-ranging from Area studies, strategic studies, Asian nationalism, Human Rights, Science and Technology, Anthropology of Globalization, Political geography, Resource, Environment and Development and International Relations.

 

The course was started in 2005 September and at present run with the following faculty members in the University system : Professor S. R.
